New Car and Weather

Two random things.  First, Lisa and I traded in the Cavalier this weekend for a 2010 Nissan Sentra 2.0 SR.  The chevy was on its last legs after 8 years and a cross country trip so we decided to replace it.  The Sentra is pretty cool.  I has a CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission), so there is no shifting at all, it gets great gas mileage, has an iPod dock, and a bluetooth system such that the car itself acts like a hand free headset for my iPhone.

On the other front, the new stations here say that this is the coldest winter / spring in 11 years.  Furthermore they claim that the return to winter conditions has caused a resurgence of colds and the flu.  Ok…fine… except that it has been like 60-65 and sunny for all of April.  I don’t think that 60 degrees contributes to flu.  If it did everyone in NY and MT would have the flu all year round.  I suppose it’s all relative, but seriously.

Play Ball

This past weekend I went to a San Diego Padres baseball game.  I don’t think I have been to a professional baseball game in 15 years or so.  I kind of burned out on baseball for a while.  Other than being a little under dressed and chilly, I quite enjoyed the game.

Since then I have found myself watching the games on TV and checking the scores for subsequent games.  While the Padres haven’t been anything spectacular over the last few years, it will be nice to have a home team to route for.  I mean I had the Jazz in Salt Lake City, but I really don’t follow the NBA at all.  The jury is still out on the Chargers, so it looks like the Padres are my current pro sport home team.

Getting Settled In

Well, I am finally getting settled in to San Diego.  Things are going well.  The apartment is less of a disaster now with most of the stuff put away, or in storage, or donated.  Both due to the great weather here and the damage done on vacations this winter, I have decided to get back in to a good physical fitness routine.  I have mainly been focusing on all things skiing for the last year or two and have honestly slacked off in other areas.  On my current list is:

  • Tennis
  • Volleyball
  • Weight Training
  • Running (would like to do some races).

Rock climbing is some where on the list as well, but I am not sure where that will fit in just yet.  The first step is to get back in to good athletic shape, then I will focus on specific things.  So for now, just disciplined eating and hitting the gym a lot.  Hopefully this will only last a month or so… the the fun can begin.

Welcome To San Diego

For those who don’t know I moved to San Diego, California and today is my first day here.  Well the good news is that the weather here is as described.  Sunny and warm.  The bad news is that apparently the welcoming committee planned an earthquake in celebration of my arrival.  That’s right, there was a 7.2 magnitude quake in Baja California, Mexico about 150 miles south of San Diego.  The quake was on the same fault line that runs by San Diego and makes it way up to LA.  There were a couple of 5.4 aftershocks a little while later.

So, for my first day here I got to stand in the doorway while the building shook.  Welcome to San Diego…

Making Some Progress

Ok, so I have wordpress installed.  I am still messing around with the theme, layout and pages.  It it definitely going to take me a little while to get this all designed.  I suspect the site will be up and down over the next several days while I play around with it.

Even though I am sure no one is reading this right now, I feel the need to explain.
